There are not enough compliments and words of praise to adequately describe the delightful music the huge, happy audience heard from 16-year-old Jeremy Stein Cushman, Wednesday, January 3rd in the VIP Room. The attractive, handsome and wonderfully talented violinist performed a very varied program of well-known songs, some serious, some lively, all brilliantly executed by a talent that has already performed throughout the world.

What a delightful evening helping to welcome residents so joyfully into the New Year.

Just listen to some of the great music this versatile performer played, beginning with the lively “Czardas,” followed by Gershwin’s “Summertime” and Allegro from “Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto,” right to “Pretty Baby” and the them from “Schindler’s List.” He also played Romantic Favorites, and then brought many to tears with “Yiddishe Mame.” He even included a host of romantic favorites, ending with one of Benny Goodman’s favorites, “Flight of the Bumble Bee.”
His credits are so long, so we’ll only list a few. He has performed internationally, as a solo violinist, in Switzerland, France, England, Scotland, Argentina, Japan, Taiwan, Hong Kong and the U.S. He has already been on many TV shows including the CBS Early Show, and at Madison Square Garden, Linoldn Center’s Avery Fisher Hall, the White House and in New Orleans. He’s worked with many famous orchestras, and performed the Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto with the Scottsdale Symphony Orchestra in Arizona. Cushman is now scheduled to perform the Bruch Violin Concerto for a live CD recording in March.

Cushman made his solo orchestral debut at the age of eight and, at the age of nine, was featured on the nationally televised CBS Early Show after winning the FAO/CBS international talent search. In 2002, he was selected to perform as Microsoft’s Symbol of Potential for it annual convention in the New Orleans Superdome where he receive a standing ovation from the 14,000 attendees.
The grandson of a Holocaust survivor, David Stein, he performs at numerous survivor gatherings, Holocaust memorial events and Jewish fundraisers, as well as at the official NYC and NYS celebrations of Israel’s 50th anniversary, hosted respectively by Former Mayor Giuliani and Governor George Pataki.

He began his violin studies at the age of five with inspirational teacher Yukako Tarumi, with whom he studied for almost nine years.

At his young age it’s clear we call all look forward to many long and happy years listening to his distinguished playing.
